Happy Purim!

In my opinion the source of the Festival of Purim- which did not actually occur till over one thousand years later- is established here in the Torah with the story of the reunification of Joseph with his family against all the odds.

Joseph  “plays” a “Purim Joke” on the brothers. Joseph was “dressed up” as an Egyptian!

In my opinion this is why the “miracle of Purim”- נס פורים is called “The Rose of Jacob” “Shoshanat Yaacov” - שושנת יעקב.  The very fact that Joseph was alive and was to be reunited with Jacob and his family was a miracle that occurred on Purim.

פורים- שׁוֹשַׁנַּת יַעֲקֹב

1574=17=8 or 2134=10=1 (Mem 600)

Why is Purim called the “Rose of Jacob” - שׁוֹשַׁנַּת יַעֲקֹב? Because as we read in Talmud Sotah 36.b (quoted above) Benjamin called all his sons after his lost brother Joseph and the youngest son was called “Yarad” and it is written there:

“Yarad, because Joseph descended (Yarad) among the peoples. Others explain Ard, because Joseph's face was like a rose (Vered-Rose)”.
וארד שירד לבין אומות העולם א"ד וארד שפניו דומין לוורד

Who was the Rose of Jacob?

Joseph- the Rose of Jacob

The rose of Jacob thrilled with joy and exulted when they beheld Mordechai garbed in royal blue
שׁוֹשַׁנַּת יַעֲקֹב צָהֲלָה וְשָׂמֵחָה, בִּרְאוֹתָם יַחַד תְּכֵלֶת מָרְדְּכָי

You have always been their salvation, their hope in every generation
תְּשׁוּעָתָם הָיִיתָ לָנֶצַח, וְתִקְוָתָם בְּכָל דּוֹר וָדוֹר

To make known that all who place hope in You shall not be put to shame,
 nor shall all those who trust in You be disgraced forever
