Rabbi Akiva-Love Your neighbor as yourself
רבי עקיבה-וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ
Probably the most famous saying attributed to Rabbi Akiva are his words regarding the phrase in verse 19.18 of the Book of Vayikra-“And you shall love your neighbor as yourself”-וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ . To these words he said “this is the greatest tenet of the Torah”- זהו כלל גדול בתּוֹרָה (Jer. Talmud, Nedarim 30.2; Midrash Beraishit Rabbah):
From the gematriot below we can appreciate what Rabbi Akiva was hinting to in his words-The Code of 1 and 8:
Love your neighbor as yourself
וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ
