First Paragraph

It is our unique responsibility to praise the Supreme Master of all, to ascribe greatness to the One who formed [the universe from nothing] in the beginning [and continues to shape its destiny in accordance with His plan]. For He did not make us like the other nations of the world, nor did He place us [determine our destiny] like the families of the earth.

עָלֵינוּ לְשַׁבֵּחַ לַאֲדוֹן הַכֹּל, לָתֵת גְּדֻלָּה לְיוֹצֵר בְּרֵאשִׁית שֶׁלֹּא עָשָׂנוּ כְּגוֹיֵי הָאֲרָצוֹת וְלֹא שָׂמָנוּ כְּמִשְׁפְּחוֹת הָאֲדָמָה:

He did not assign us a role [in history] like theirs, nor determine our fortune like all the multitudes [who fail to perceive God’s oneness behind the façade of nature]. For they bow down to vanity and emptiness, and pray to a power that cannot save.

שֶׁלֹּא שָׂם חֶלְקֵנוּ כָּהֶם וְלֹא גוֹרָלֵנוּ כְּכָל הֲמוֹנָם שֶׁהֵם מִשְׁתַּחֲוִים לְהֶבֶל וָרִיק וּמִתְפַּלְּלִים אֶל אֵל לֹא יוֹשִׁיעַ:

*But we bow down before the Supreme King of all kings, the holy transcendent One, may He [His Oneness, His Light, His Presence] be ever more blessed [revealed and acknowledged]. It is He who continually stretches out the heavens and lays the foundations of the earth. [And although His glory fills all creation] the Throne of His honor* [the place from which it shines forth] is in heaven above, and the indwelling of His power is in the loftiest heights. [* Version of the Gaon of Vilna]

*וַאֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּחֲוִים לִפְנֵי מֶלֶךְ מַלְכֵי הַמְּלָכִים הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שֶׁהוּא נוֹטֶה שָׁמַיִם וְיֹסֵד אָרֶץ  וכיסא כבודו* בַּשָּׁמַיִם מִמַּעַל וּשְׁכִינַת עֻזּוֹ בְּגָבְהֵי מְרוֹמִים:

*וַאֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּחֲוִים לִפְנֵי מֶלֶךְ מַלְכֵי הַמְּלָכִים הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שֶׁהוּא נוֹטֶה שָׁמַיִם וְיֹסֵד אָרֶץ וּמוֹשַׁב יְקָרוֹ בַּשָּׁמַיִם מִמַּעַל וּשְׁכִינַת עֻזּוֹ בְּגָבְהֵי מְרוֹמִים:

He is our God; there is no other. He is our King, the ultimate reality; there is nothing other than Him.

 הוּא אֱלֹהֵינוּ וְאֵין עוֹד אַחֵר אֱמֶת מַלְכֵּנוּ וְאֶפֶס זוּלָתוֹ:

This is [the deeper meaning of] what is written in His Torah:

כַּכָּתוּב בַּתּוֹרָה:

Know today and reflect upon it in your heart that Hashem [He who is pure Being] is the One and Only God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is nothing else. 

וְיָדַעְתָּ הַיּוֹם וַהֲשֵׁבֹתָ אֶל לְבָבֶךָ כִּי יְהֹוָה הוּא הָאֱלֹהִים בַּשָּׁמַיִם מִמַּעַל וְעַל הָאָרֶץ מִתָּחַת אֵין עוֹד.

Second Paragraph

We therefore direct our hope to You alone, Hashem our God, to behold Your Power [manifested] soon in all its splendor. [This will signal] the removal of idols [idolatrous beliefs] from the earth by utterly cutting off false gods [i.e., the illusion that any power exists independently of You].

עַל כֵּן נְקַוֶּה-לָּךְ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ, לִרְאוֹת מְהֵרָה בְּתִפְאֶרֶת עֻזָּךְ לְהַעֲבִיר גִּלּוּלִים מִן הָאָרֶץ וְהָאֱלִילִים כָּרוֹת יִכָּרֵתוּן:

The world will then be rectified [and reach perfection] under the sovereignty of the All-Sustaining One [the mode of Divine Providence that You use to sustain all creation]. All Humanity will call upon Your Name, and all the wicked of the world will turn [and return] to You.

 לְתַקֵּן עוֹלָם בְּמַלְכוּת שַׁדַּי וְכָל בְּנֵי בָשָׂר יִקְרְאוּ בִשְׁמֶךָ לְהַפְנוֹת אֵלֶיךָ כָּל רִשְׁעֵי אָרֶץ:

7370=17=8 (final letters)

All the inhabitants of the earth will recognize [the truth] and realize that, to You alone, every knee must bend and every tongue swear [eternal allegiance].

יַכִּירוּ וְיֵדְעוּ כָּל יוֹשְׁבֵי תֵבֵל כִּי לְךָ תִּכְרַע כָּל בֶּרֶךְ תִּשָּׁבַע כָּל לָשׁוֹן:

3402=1+8 or 5012=8 (final letters)

Hashem our God! They will bow and fall down before You.

לְפָנֶיךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יִכְרְעוּ וְיִפֹּלוּ:

And they will pay homage to the glory of Your Name and all will accept upon themselves the yoke of Your absolute sovereignty! O reign [reveal Your sovereignty] over them soon and for all eternity! For kingship is eternally Yours [above and beyond this world]. [We therefore await the day when] Your glorious sovereignty will be revealed [in this world, and then] for all eternity.

וְלִכְבוֹד שִׁמְךָ יְקָר יִתֵּנוּ וִיקַבְּלוּ כֻלָּם אֶת עֹל מַלְכוּתֶךָ וְתִמְלֹךְ עֲלֵיהֶם מְהֵרָה לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד כִּי הַמַּלְכוּת שֶׁלְּךָ הִיא וּלְעוֹלְמֵי עַד תִּמְלֹךְ בְּכָבוֹד

5309=17=8

This is [the deeper meaning of] what is written in Your Torah:

כַּכָּתוּב בְּתוֹרָתָךְ:

1476=18

[The day will come when] Hashem’s sovereignty will be revealed [in this world and] for all eternity!

 יְהוָה יִמְלֹךְ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד:

It was also said [i.e., all this was implied by Your prophet Zekhariah when he said:] 

וְנֶאֱמַר:

[The day is surely coming when] Hashem will be [recognized and acknowledged] as King over the entire earth [just as His kingship is acknowledged in heaven]:

וְהָיָה יְהוָה לְמֶלֶךְ עַל כָּל הָאָרֶץ:

1908=18

On that day will be revealed [to all mankind].

בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא יִהְיֶה:
