The Eight Garments of the High Priest

At the beginning of this commentary I asked the question whether there were 6 or 8 Holy Garments of the High Priest.

The opinion of the Sages is that there were 8 even though only six of them are mentioned at the beginning of the passage.

The total gematriot of all the 8 garments support the opinion of the Sages as 8 garments have a joint gematria of 8:

1.       Choshen of Judgment-                חֹשֶׁן מִשְׁפָּט   =787               

2.       Eiphod-                                               אֵפֹד  =  94           

3.       Me’il-                                        מְעִיל הָאֵפוֹד   = 246

4.       Titz-                                                    צִּיץ   = 190                                     

5.       Katonet-                                           כְּתֹנֶת    = 870                                       

6.       Mitznefet-                                         מִצְנֶפֶת  = 660

7.       Avneit-                                              אַבְנֵט   =  62

8.       Linen Trousers-                                  מִכְנְסֵי-בָד   =186    

3095=17=8 or + 11 words=3016=10=1

The number 3016 corresponds to the 613 commandments in the Torah that Aaron “carried” for the Children of Israel on his shoulders, in his mind and in his heart.
