Beraishit-22.17- בראשית

Stars in the Heavens-Sand on the Sea Shore

Abraham's Double Blessing in two halves

17.’That I shall surely bless you, and I surely multiply your offspring as the stars of the Heavens and as the sand on the seashore; and your offspring shall inherit the gate of its enemies-כִּי בָרֵךְ אֲבָרֶכְךָ וְהַרְבָּה אַרְבֶּה אֶת זַרְעֲךָ כְּכוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם וְכַחוֹל אֲשֶׁר עַל שְׂפַת הַיָּם וְיִרַשׁ זַרְעֲךָ אֵת שַׁעַר אֹיְבָיו(8451=18 counting final Mems and Kafs as 600 and 500).

The verse can be divided so:
·         That I shall surely bless you and I surely multiply your offspring- כִּי בָרֵךְ אֲבָרֶכְךָ וְהַרְבָּה אַרְבֶּה אֶת זַרְעֲךָ (1619=17=8);
·         As the stars of the Heavens and as the sand on the seashore-כְּכוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם וְכַחוֹל אֲשֶׁר עַל שְׂפַת הַיָּם (1979=26=8);
·         And your offspring shall inherit the gate of its enemies- וְיִרַשׁ זַרְעֲךָ אֵת שַׁעַר אֹיְבָיו (1813+5 words=18).
Rashi comments here that the double blessings are to both Abraham the father and to Isaac the son (Beraishit Rabbah 56.11).

I would add that as everything connected to Abraham is doubled (see my commentary to Parshat Lech-Lecha), this double blessing was entirely for Abraham who through Isaac and his offspring –Jacob and the 12 Tribes-would receive blessings in this world (sand on the sea shores) and in the World to Come (stars in the Heavens) .

This opinion is supported by the gematriot of the name “Abraham”-אַבְרָהָם (248 and 808) which corresponds to doubling. In verse 11 above Hashem calls out Abraham’s name twice. Moreover as the battle of good and evil is raging in both worlds, Abraham has both physical and Metaphysical enemies thus it is written here in the plural “its enemies”-אֹיְבָיו

This opinion is supported by the following gematriot:

Stars in the Heaven-World to Come

כוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם-עולם הבא

607+4 words=611=8 or 1727=17=8

611=Torah

Sand on the sea shore-This World

חוֹל אֲשֶׁר עַל שְׂפַת הַיָּם- עולם הזה

1743=14=8 or 2763=18

Why is Abraham promised first the blessing in the World to Come and secondly the blessing in this world?

The answer is simple-They are One blessing in two halves, however in order to receive what is promised at the beginning in the spiritual world, the war first has to be won at the end in the physical world, where there are physical contractions of the Infinite Light and physical restrictions such as time and three dimensional space.

This matter is of fundamental importance in understanding the “work” that the Jewish People have to perform in this world in order for them to fulfill the double promise in two halves of Hashem to Abraham in our verse:

The spiritual battle that is raging in the World of the Heavens will be won by the physical performance and observance of Torah and its commandments by the Jewish People in THIS world. This is whyTorah (611=8) was given to the Jewish People.

This in turn will cause Hashem to “descend” from the “World of the Heavens” and defeat the physical enemies of the Jewish People in the “World of the Earth”.

When this happens, the two circles of the World of the Heavens will close in on one another in direct relation to the closing in of the two triangles (Shield of Abraham/David) of the World of the Earth.

Only then will the two “separate” worlds be united and exist together without separation through the Unification of the Name “Hai”. Then we will enter the World to Come/ that Came which is awaiting us from before the beginning of time itself.

At this juncture in time Abraham (and Isaac and Sarah) succeeded in securing the World to Come for his (their descendants). All that remains now is for the Jewish People to finish the battle by returning to Hashem in repentance through the observation of Torah and mitzvoth.

Hashem will then finish the battle on earth for us as it is written (Shmot 14.14):

14.’ Hashem will fight for you and you will remain silent – יְהוָה יִלָּחֵם לָכֶם וְאַתֶּם תַּחֲרִשׁוּן (1615+ 5 words=1620=1+8 or 3945+ 5 words =3950=17=18 counting final Nun and Mems as 700 and 600).

The verse can be divided so:
·         Hashem- יְהוָה (26=8);
·         Will fight for you and you will remain silent- יִלָּחֵם לָכֶם וְאַתֶּם תַּחֲרִשׁוּן (3919+4 words=3923=17=8 counting final Nun and Mems as 700 and 600).

The Shema Prayer
Faith in the Metaphysical

Hear, O Israel, Hashem is our G-d, Hashem is One
שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָד

Or

 1106=8

Or
שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָד
1124=8 (letter Chet as 14)

Or

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֲדֹנָי אֶחָד
1196=17=8

The number 1118 corresponds to the three times the mid- point is touched when drawing two adjoining circles to form the number 8. This mid-point corresponds to the beginning, middle and end of Torah; to the past present and future; to the three Forefathers; to the three Foot Festivals and to the Three Temples. This point is the axis of the entire Universe from where Heaven and Earth were created. This point is "The Place"- הַמָּקוֹם on the Temple Mount where the Ark of the Covenant was placed that took up space and was "spaceless", the point of "Bittul"-ביטול (point of absolute nothingness) where the Metaphysical attaches to the Physical.

Beraishit 22.7- בראשית

"I am Isaac the Lamb"
There is much discussion amongst the Sages as to whether Isaac knew whether he was to be sacrificed by his father Abraham or not . The following  verse gives us a clue that he did know and agreed wholeheartedly to give up his life for the sake of sanctifying the Name of Hashem

7.’ And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, 'My father', And he said, 'Here I am, my son.' And he said, 'Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the Burnt-Offering? - וַיֹּאמֶר יִצְחָק אֶל־אַבְרָהָם אָבִיו וַיֹּאמֶר אָבִי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֶּנִּי בְנִי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה הָאֵשׁ וְהָעֵצִים וְאַיֵּה הַשֶּׂה לְעֹלָה(3898=28=10=1 or + 17 words=3915=18).

The verse can be divided so:
·         And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, 'My father'- וַיֹּאמֶר יִצְחָק אֶל אַבְרָהָם אָבִיו וַיֹּאמֶר אָבִי (1593=18 counting final Mem as 600);
·         And he said, 'Here I am, my son.' And he said, 'Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the Burnt-Offering? וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה הָאֵשׁ וְהָעֵצִים וְאַיֵּה הַשֶּׂה לְעֹלָה  (1871 =18).
Surprisingly Rashi is silent to this verse.

The gematria of the word “lamb”- שֶּׂה is 305=8.

The gematria of the word “lamb for the Burnt Offering”- שֶּׂה לְעֹלָה is 440=8 or + 2 words=10=1.

Is Isaac asking a question here as traditionally thought or is he saying “Here is the fire and the wood and I am the lamb for the burnt-Offering”?

The gematria of the words “and where is the lamb for the Burnt-Offering”-וְאַיֵּה הַשֶּׂה לְעֹלָה is 467=17=8.

The gematria of the word “where is”- אַיֵּה is 16+1 word=17=8.

The word “and where is”- וְאַיֵּה are the initials of the words “I am Isaac the Lamb”-ו-אני יצחק השה:
·                  And-                                וְ   = 6
·                  I am-                        אַ    ני  =61
·                  Isaac-                   יֵּ    צְחָק  =208
·                  The Lamb-           ה    שֶּׂה  =310

I am Isaac the Lamb

ואני יצחק השה

585=18

Thus this verse should be understood:

“Here is the fire and the wood and I am Isaac the Lamb”!

הִנֵּה הָאֵשׁ וְהָעֵצִים ואני יצחק השה

1172+6 words=17=8

In the light of the above we can now  conclude that Isaac knew that he was to be the sacrifice and agreed to it, so that Abraham his father would ultimately inherit the Land of Israel and succeed in his mission of Tikkun Olam as Mashiach at the End of Days.

The Binding of Isaac

Beraishit 22.2- בראשית

2.’ And He said, 'Please take your son, your only son, who you love, Isaac, and go for yourself to the Land of the Moriah- וַיֹּאמֶר קַח נָא אֶת בִּנְךָ אֶת יְחִידְךָ אֲשֶׁר אָהַבְתָּ אֶת יִצְחָק וְלֶךְ לְךָ אֶל אֶרֶץ הַמֹּרִיָּה (3548+15 words=3563=17=8); and offer him up there for an Olag-Offering upon one of the mountains which I shall tell you- וְהַעֲלֵהוּ שָׁם לְעֹלָה עַל אַחַד הֶהָרִים אֲשֶׁר אֹמַר אֵלֶיךָ(1773=18).

Rashi comments here that Abraham is requested by Hashem. He tells him to pass this trial so that people would not belittle the other trials that Abraham underwent (Sanhedrin 89.b; Tanchuma 22.). The “Ten Trials of Abraham” are detailed at the end of this Parsha.

Rashi adds that the beginning of the verse is written so as Abraham had two sons whom he both loved from separate mothers. Hashem did not reveal Isaac’s name straight away so as not to confuse Abraham and in order to make the commandment more precious to him. For each statement in this verse Abraham received reward (Tanchuma 22; Beraishit Rabbah 55.7).

The verse can be divided so:
·         The gematria of the words “Please take”- קַח נָא is 159+2 words=161=8.
·         The gematria of the words “Your son”- אֶת בִּנְךָ is 473=14=8 or 953=17=8 counting final Kaf as 500.
·         The gematria of the words “Your only one”- אֶת יְחִידְךָ is 453+2 words=14=8 or 933+2 words=17=8 counting final Kaf as 500.
·         The gematria of the words “that you love”- אֲשֶׁר אָהַבְתָּ is 909=18.
·         The gematria of the words “who is Isaac”- אֶת יִצְחָק is 609+2 words=611=8.

Torah=611=תורה
When Hashem said the words “ who is Isaac”- אֶת יִצְחָק (611) Abraham knew that there was nothing to fear and that it was a test to bring him great reward. This is also why Isaac- a man of 37 years of age- agreed to go.

They were to have the last laugh. This is why he was called Isaac-יִצְחָקwhich means "He shall laugh!

The Birth of Isaac
Beraishit 21.3- בראשית

3.’And Abraham named the name of his son that was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac- וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם אֶת שֶׁם בְּנוֹ הַנּוֹלַד לוֹ אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה לּוֹ שָׂרָה יִצְחָק (3914=17=8).

The verse according to its gematria is quite remarkable. Aside from the total gematria of the verse as shown above the verse can be split into seven other ways which all decode in the Code of 1 and 8:
·         And Abraham named- וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם (565+2 words=18);
·         The name of his son- אֶת שֶׁם בְּנוֹ is 799+3 words=802=10=1 or 1359=18 counting final Mem as 600);
·         And Abraham named the name of his son- וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם אֶת שֶׁם בְּנוֹ (1364=14=8 or 2484=18 counting final Mems as 600);
·         The name of his son that was born to him- שֶׁם בְּנוֹ הַנּוֹלַד לוֹ(1089=18 counting final Mem as 600);
·         And Abraham named the name of his son that was born to him-וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם אֶת שֶׁם בְּנוֹ הַנּוֹלַד לוֹ (1495=19=10=1 or +7 words=1502=8).
·         Whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac- אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה לּוֹ שָׂרָה יִצְחָק (1299+5 words=1304=8);
·         And Abraham named the name of his son that was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him- וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם אֶת שֶׁם בְּנוֹ הַנּוֹלַד לוֹ אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה לּוֹ שָׂרָה (3706+11 words=3717=18).
Finally the gematria of the word “Isaac”- יִצְחָק is 208=10=1.

In Parshat Lech-Lecha (Beraishit 17.19) when Hashem informed Abraham that he would have a son who would be called Isaac I wrote:

19.’ And G-d said- וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים(903+2 words=14=8 counting final Mem as 600), ‘But (indeed-Rashi) Sarah your wife shall bear you a son; and you shall call his name Isaac, and I will establish My Covenant with him for an everlasting Covenant for his offspring after him- אֲבָל שָׂרָה אִשְׁתְּךָ יֹלֶדֶת לְךָ בֵּן וְקָרָאתָ אֶת שְׁמוֹ יִצְחָק וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת בְּרִיתִי אִתּוֹ לִבְרִית עוֹלָם לְזַרְעוֹ אַחֲרָיו(8954=26=8 counting final Nun, Mem and Kaf as 700, 600 and 500).
Rashi comments here that he was to be called Isaac-יִצְחָקbecause of the laughter. According to Midrash (Beraishit Rabbah 53.7) the name Isaac was chosen after:
·   Ten trials of Abraham-Yud-  י    =10=     1
·   Sarah being 90-Zadik         -צ   =90 =1+8
·   Eight days of circumcision- ח     =8=       8
·   Abraham being 100 -         ק   =100 =   1

The first three letters of Isaac’s name spell the word “half’-חצי which has a gematria of 108.
“Half”- חצי of the last letter- “Kuf”- ק (100) is 50.

The number 50 corresponds to the Sphira of Bina-בינה and the “50 Gates of Understanding” and also corresponds to the number 8.
Thus the name “Isaac”- יִצְחָק corresponds to “half”- חצי of 100- ק   whichis 50=8.
 "Isaac" = 8 from the Eighth Sphira
Moreover the gematria of the name Isaac- יִצְחָק (208) is eight times the number 26 (8) which is the gematria of the name of Hashem -י-ה-ו-ה.

208=8*26  (8)
8*8=64=10=1

Thus he was circumcised on the 8th Day

Beraishit 19.27-בראשית

Abraham arose early to The Place

27.’And Abraham arose early in the morning to the place where he had [previously] stood before Hashem- וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר אֶל הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר עָמַד שָׁם אֶת פְּנֵי יְהוָה (2672=17=8).

The verse can be divided so:
·         And Abraham arose early in the morning- וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר(2048 = 14=8 or + 3 words =251=8 counting final Mems as 600);
·         To the place- אֶל הַמָּקוֹם(222+2 words=8);
·         Where he had [previously] stood before Hashem- אֲשֶׁר עָמַד שָׁם אֶת פְּנֵי  יְהוָה (1522=10=1 or   2082+6 words=18 counting final Mem as 600).

And Abraham arose early in the morning
וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר
2048

 Abraham
אַבְרָהָם
248

This is the place where he had previously pleaded with Hashem not to destroy Sodom.

This phrase "to The Place"- אֶל הַמָּקוֹם (222+2=8) is found again at the end of the Parsha along with the words "and Abraham arose early in the morning"- וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר (22.3). This is "The Place' where Abraham takes Isaac to be sacrificed.

3.’And Abraham arose early in the morning- וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר (2048=14=8 or + 3 words=17=8 counting final Mems as 600), and saddled his donkey-וַיַּחֲבֹשׁ אֶת חֲמֹרוֹ (981=18), and he took his two young men with him- וַיִּקַּח אֶת שְׁנֵי נְעָרָיו אִתּוֹ(1628=17=8), and Isaac his son, and he chopped (split-Rashi) the wood for the burnt-offering- וְאֵת יִצְחָק  בְּנוֹ וַיְבַקַּע עֲצֵי עֹלָה(1136+6 words=1142=8), and he stood up, and went to the place of which G-d had told him- וַיָּקָם וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר אָמַר לוֹ הָאֱלֹהִים (1313=8 or 3473=17=8 counting final Mems and Kaf as 600 and 500).
There "The Place"- הַמָּקוֹם is identified as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. It could well be that this was the same place where Abraham pleaded with Hashem to save Sodom.

The meaning of the words "to the place"- אֶל הַ מָּקוֹם read backwards is “The Place of G-d”- מָּקוֹם הַ אֶל.

Thus "to the Place”- אֶל הַמָּקוֹם which is the "Place of G-d"- מָּקוֹם הַאֶל, G-d spoke to Abraham.

That this Place is the Temple Mount is proven by the following gematriot:
